Discover Little Barn

Our Story

Little Barn opened its doors on January 15, 1993 to an immediately accepting public who was hungry for something new. This is our story.

Watching traffic...

Old school market research

When Gene Briscoe first had the idea to do something different after retirement, he'd wake early in the morning, drive to the empty lot at the corner of Pike Street and GA-20, sit in his reliable old Blazer, sip coffee, and watch the traffic.

And what did he notice?

Lots of folks driving by: people headed to work, contractors heading to a new job, service professionals, and truck drivers making deliveries. And it got Gene wondering: how many of these folks had a hot meal before they left home?

It was then that Gene made up his mind to start a restaurant right there on that corner. He and his family would be the ones to feed all the folks a good hot meal and get them back on the road.

We pride ourselves in

Serving Great Food

At Little Barn, we've had several funny sayings around the restaurant over the years, but the 2 that remain the strongest are simply about making good food:

"Cookin' food better than your mama."
"Don't waste your hungry anywhere else."

We're certainly not shy about the food we make or the pride we feel as we slide a hot plate of food across the counter to a customer. We are here to serve and it is our passion. There's nothing fancy about our food. No pretense. No fancy wrappers. Just good food that feels like home.

The Secret Recipe?

Make it Bigger

Most newcomers to the restaurant comment about the extra large size of our biscuits. When first planning on how large the biscuits would be, founder Gene Briscoe just kept saying "bigger" and that's exactly what we did. We've made them the same ever since and will continue to take pride in our "big ol' biscuits!"

Passing the torch

From Gene to Laura

When founder Gene Briscoe was in school, his nickname was "Biscuit" AND he was always predicted to own a thriving biscuit business one day. Well, his childhood friends weren't far off the mark when Gene opened the Little Barn less than 30 minutes away from his hometown of Monroe in the county seat of Gwinnett, the City of Lawrenceville.

Gene retired a few years after opening the Little Barn. Now, the restaurant is owned & operated by his daughter, Laura Marlowe. However, he still pops in from time to time to enjoy a salmon biscuit or BBQ sandwich and a glass of tea.

Meet the Owners

Laura & Bill Marlowe

Laura Marlowe is not just the owner of Little Barn - she is the heart and soul of the business. Since opening in 1993, Laura has run the restaurant and placed it firmly in the Lawrenceville history books as THE place to eat in town. Next time you stop by, be sure to say hello to Laura, our owner, manager, pit boss, & biscuit queen.

Since 2020, Laura's husband, Bill, has been a part of the daily operations at Little Barn. When Laura and Bill aren't at the restaurant, they're with their family and enjoying time with their grandkids.
